Most, if not all, of the ten original aces are associated with unsupportive and harmful parenting. This suggests that the most important lesson from the ACE Study and the one that is not being addressed is that many adverse childhood experiences can be prevented with parenting education.

I wish public health authorities would react to CPTSD like they reacted to polio. What I mean is this. Polio was eradicated not by intervention and treatment, but by primary prevention...immunization. Similarly, the adverse childhood experiences associated with unsupportive and harmful parenting can be eradicated by another form of primary prevention...a new kind of parenting education that reaches everyone, everywhere, all the time. This won't happen with the speed of a vaccine, but in a generation’s time CPTSD caused by child maltreatment might only be a horrific memory.

It is very difficult to cover all the aspects of CPTSD in even a series of articles and I am very happy you understand. I appreciate your comment. Thank you, Shirley
