Thank you for writing this. I too get hijacked from being in the present by bad memories that rob me of making new good memories just enjoying whatever I am experiencing. It's horrible and I'm glad you made me aware of this devestation and how I might mitigate it.

I have the similar issues and reactions from my amygdala. So many panic attacks and terrifying fear of separation. I am the same age as you too. I am a recovering alcoholic. When I decided to get sober for the 2nd and last time I started walking my dog daily and volunteering at the humane society. The love and compassion I felt for the animals I genuinely believe healed me. Now I try to remember what I'm grateful for and enlist compassion whenever I can. I work now with suicidal children and the compassion is overflowing.

You put words to my hijack triggerers and why they come out of nowhere. Just seeing why..that like an alcoholic I need to make my AA meetings with myself to heal and attend to my screaming inner child. Thank you for your clear words that define what cPTSD feels like ..why 30 yrs married to my soulmate can be flushed in a moment. I've felt insane to be this fragile to loose all my security by a trigger like a text..a look.
