I find that all of my close friends have the same role in their families, and that makes us feel like we are up to no good in their eyes when we get together. I find that every scapegoat has exactly the same story. It's hard to believe that they claim to be the caring, smart, strong ones when they are anything but those things and they know it so they resent the hell out of the odd one out, not odd as in strange but because you are everything they fail to be. That is unbearable for them to witness so it's a struggle for their lives to hide you from everyone so they can hang on to the thin string they cling to. It's sad and enraging at the same time. I resent being tripped up by weak people and watching them thrive on it while wasting away any contribution I may have given to the family. I support them. They just don't admit they remember.

Pierced right through to my soul. Such understanding in your words. So much of what you share sounds familiar to my upbringing, my response to it, and the struggles I have endured and fight back against now that I have reached midlife. Thank you for sharing this. All the best to you and those who come here for a fighting chance. Let’s choose ourselves, finally. Even with a great support system, no one came to save us then, and they won’t now. It’s up to us to find our way, our tribe, our commitment to this precious life that has always been — and always will be — ours to live.
