My experience has been that psychiatrists will substitute PTSD for CPTSD for the sake of insurance reimbursements. Obviously, a DSM revision would be much better. The APA issue sounds like a research war, especially considering the overlapping of some of the symptoms with a gross difference in the origin conditions. The new diagnosis would make perfect sense to anyone on the street.

Your only recourse is to file for SSI and see if you can qualify. I don't know of any other benefits like social security disability income (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

What if a person with long-diagnosed CPTSD/PTSD worked a job for many years that did not pay into Social Security? This disqualifies me from collecting disability.
Are there any other government or other agencies that provide disability benefits to qualified people who did work, just not for an entity that paid into Social Security? Thanks.

I found this very interesting. The description of CPTSD in the work place is how I have been operating (not always present) and it's impact. I truly hope the diagnosis becomes more accepted and understood. Thank you for the article and I hope it continues the dialogue.
