Thank you so much for writing about Complex PTSD and employment. I tell psychologists that I have witnessed violence everywhere. They tell me that they have never witnessed violence on their job sites. I want to feel safe. People are yelling, throwing objects, threatening others, and I have worked at facilities where we had active shootings.

Eric, I am sorry you are struggling at work. I know how difficult it is to gather all your courage to have a conversation about your situation with your manager and shift supervisor. It is not an easy thing to do. Advocating for ourselves, especially for the first time, can be challenging, but you are not alone in your struggle. I would like to invite you to join my FREE community for trauma survivors who are working through the legacy effects of trauma on their careers. There is no pressure to join...just a simple invitation: https://rca.group.app/join_group/xhimgo3ME7LnzQvtPrS

I am starting to have to deal with my cPTSD more often than not at work lately. I work at a company where my manager and shift supervisor are not required to understand my condition, symptoms and possible triggers they are causing for me. HR tells me that if I am having a problem I need to go talk with them about it. Is it unethical for me to submit a letter to HR in reference to my condition, symptoms and triggers that are being caused by job related issues?

Thank you for the great article, Cyndi!

As a fellow traveler and trauma survivor, I definitely relate to so many of your points. One that sticks out especially is your, “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” line. As well as your comments on toxic work environments.

Especially for those of us with CPTSD, without a supportive employer where we feel safe and enabled to do so, it can be so difficult to stay committed to our healing journey. And I love how you counter that with self care and boundaries.

Thank you again for sharing your valuable insights!
