Emily, I am so sorry that you are experiencing a toxic and unsupportive environment at work. That is really hard when you have an incredibly important job to do as a teacher. It is unfortunate that the Administration is making a difficult job even more difficult by blaming and targeting teachers instead of supporting them. Eventually, that is going to bite them in the butt, but not until teachers stand up and speak up to tell them, "This is NOT OK."

I encourage you to take gentle care of yourself and not rely on anyone in authority to do it since they seem incapable of doing it. You are not alone. There are many teachers within the CPTSD Foundation who are experiencing similar situations. Lean in, my friend, and get the support that you need. I am available to have a free discovery call with you if you think that would be helpful. You've got this!!!

I truly appreciate your words, understanding, and perspective. The timing of my encountering your site couldn't have been more serendipitous; I've been standing up (alone, mostly) to bully administrators in an environment so toxic, it feels like the higher-ups would rather contribute to it, actively and passively, than chance rocking the boat on status-quo tide. Good thing I can swim. The believe it's much more cost-effective to single out and label the talented, popular, compassionate, respectable, square-peg, veteran teachers (plural) targetted as "The Problem," and take the tried-and-"true" steps to eliminate them one by one as quickly as possible--with help from the victim's expected silence,of course. I, too, am wrestling with the idea of taking a short term disability. The trauma is no joke. Not sure of statistics, but I've read several stories of teachers who chose suicide over subjecting themselves to their tormentors warped whims each workday: the same principals whose responsibility
it is to discipline students FOR bullying, harassment, and intimidation and model apporopriate behavior for communication and conflict resolution. I now know (without a doubt) I need to do more to take actual steps toward saving myself. No one else seems to be stepping up, letalone stepping in. Again, I truly appreciate your support.
