I hear you Tellina, and thank you for naming what so many, still today are experiencing...
sometimes even professionals hide out in their comfort zones and are being traumatized by the very systems they train and work in. The freeze response is even more prevalent in our daily lives and healthcare systems than people have recognized or maybe care to admit. It sounds like your doctor froze .. which created a deeper wound for you, because your body felt that .. when you most needed help, the doctor didn't have the nervous system capacity to hold you.

It's like trying to turn a gigantic slow moving ship .. that turning feels far too slow coming for many. It's leaves those gaping wounds of grief and anger from not being heard and adequately helped to a point of it feeling like cruelty.

When you're stuck in survival mode and reach out for help, it is so underestimated what that takes. And more information does not necessarily equate to more embodied understanding or healing.

There is no doubt about it, there are changes, they are slow coming and even doctors/healthcare workers/teacher's/therapists themselves are trying to make a stand - to stand up to the systems - . They are literally learning along side us.

I'm grateful to the CPTSD foundation for being part of that change and to really reassure people [I work with people from all ages from 30's to 70's] It's never to late and I will continue to do my bit and to share in a way that speaks to the hearts, souls and minds of those who feel stuck because of broken external systems from healthcare to educational to family systems and beyond.

Peoples experiences like yours, is where the research needs to live... and everything they need to learn from is right here. Thank you for taking the time to read, and comment.. every time you do, you are contributing to that much needed change.
I appreciate you and know I'm right beside with this need for movement. I can't erase the trail of destruction but what I hope to leave you with today is a shared foundation of hope with action.

Hello Chrissy, not being believed is such added insult to your trauma, people who can tolerate the thought of such things will often try to apply shame on truth teller. Please know my heart is with you and your truth has been heard. The 'get over it' part again is down to their intolerance and when people don't understand trauma, they can't understand that healing involves careful sequencing and that its not something you just 'get over'. Thank you for reaching out and for sharing, this is why this foundation is here.
I send out different resources to email subscribers weekly and there are also some blogs there that might spark some relief of finally feeling heard. At the end of this blog you can find my website, LinkedIn page and you tube channel ..a lot of people have appreciated my posts and free resources there.
Other amazing and understanding humans would be Dr.Scott Lyons and Dr. Arielle Schwartz, DR. Ruth Lanius and a book that has stood the test of time is titled 'From Surviving to Thriving' by Pete Walker .. Hope you find all this somewhat helpful

Thank you for recognizing and explaining what was impossible for countless doctors, therapists and counselors to recognize because they aren’t trained to recognize it. AI has shone a light on how neglected sufferers have been not just by their parents many years ago but by the denial of the ineffective “treatment” offered by Popular Psychology models from 1947. How were any of us who had to learn to adapt to save our lives ever believe the professional “care” community decided adults of cPTSD deserved no consideration of study other than to “listen?” And most don’t even do that effectively, so the life we didn’t get to live is in great part attributed to a deceitful profit driven profession that further traumatizes and eventually renders our delayed development a disability for life. For many of us AI came too late to save. And because the public has been starved of the truth there is little sympathy in the relationships we have left. I told all the doctors I was stuck in “Fight/Flight” for decades. There was no questions or conversations. That is cruelty.

This is a wonderfully written article and really resonates with me. I've never been diagnosed with CPTSD but do have other diagnoses and am a survivor of a long run of abuse from a relative from around 6-14. No one ever believed me and even called me awful names when I tried to tell them. To this day, my mom says I need to get over it. I would love to. This has affected every area of my life and I would love any additional recommended resources there are.

We sometimes forget that our nervous systems don’t live in isolation.
They live in relationship.

The closer someone is to us emotionally, the more our nervous system perceives their state as relevant to our survival and belonging.

So when:
A partner becomes reactive or dysregulated.

Our nervous system doesn’t just observe it, it often tracks it as meaningful and for very good reasons.

It can be so hard to be there for each other at a nervous system level if we don't understand that might be going on for each other.

Thank you for sharing something many deeply caring, trauma self-aware people experience. I hope it's somewhat helpful.
