My beautiful sister died in 2015 leaving behind four children ranging in ages from 4 to 12.Her husband has systematically alienated the children from their maternal grandmother, aunties and three cousins.Our mother is now 97 and nearing the end of her life.She has not seen or spoken to my sister’s 2 older children for over 10 years, around 8 years for the 2 younger ones.They live 30 minutes from her.I recently let them know that her health was declining and that if they wanted to reach out to her, time was running out.They did not even respond.During my sisters life they had a loving and healthy relationship with their grandmother and extended family on their mother’s side.This is more than tragic as the alienation seems to complete and permanent.It’s great to have the support of groups such as yours because unless you’ve experienced this, it’s hard to believe people can be so incredibly cruel.

I’ll try to schedule work to attend next month. When I left my ex, my adult stepdaughter cut me off immediately from herself and the grandchildren, my adult son followed, and while my daughter has gone back and forth, the inevitable has happened and I’m cut off now. If you met me, and then heard how the ex describes me you’d have a hard time rectifying the two. Classic situation in that I’m a highly empathetic nurturing type who tolerated far too much from a narcissist. The ex painted my rising expectations of him with the same brush as my encouragement to the kids to develop their own adult independence. I’m the mean one in their eyes, he’s the buddy pal, never the parent. Trauma therapy, journaling, learning self care. Externally I have a beautiful new life and loving new relationships. I could give a hoot about the ex, just wish he had a warning label on his forehead so he’d stop manipulating people. But the grief over the kids and grandkids is very real and a pain in my heart every day.
