What is CPTSD?
Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD, C-PTSD, Complex PTSD) describes the results of ongoing, inescapable, relational trauma. Unlike Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD typically involves being hurt by another person. These hurts are ongoing, repeated, and often involving a betrayal and loss of safety.

STAR Network is a community built on a simple but radical belief: that healing is possible, and that no one should have to do it alone. We bring together trauma survivors, families, and the people who support them — through peer connection, education, and events that turn shared experience into shared strength. Whether you’re just beginning to understand your story or years into your recovery, STAR Network is a place where you belong.

Addressing CPTSD in Midlife
In 2021, at the age of 51, the acute effects of CPTSD started to tear me asunder. The mayhem wrought by a global pandemic certainly played a factor, but physically, perimenopause had been underway for a few years and an indescribable anxiety was constant. Unable to...
Overcoming Codependency
In this series of articles, we have examined codependency and various types of trauma. We've learned that living in a home where there is familial violence and neglect can spark in a child the need to be needed and thus set them up for becoming codependent in later...
Silent Bystander Parents
Silent Bystander Parents (SBP) do not intend to allow their children to be harmed by coaches. Research tells us that many families are not even aware that abuse is occurring. The emotional abuse happens right in front of them, and they often do not realize the...
The Connection Between PTSD and the Menopausal Transition
Even though there is an abundance of literature on PTSD, we lack a thorough understanding of the biological causes that explain why it is more than twice as prevalent in women than men. Women are also more likely to experience chronic PTSD for more than a year....
Healing from Codependency After Physical and Emotional Abuse
So far, in this series, we have discussed narcissistic and childhood abuse and how codependency can become a problem for survivors. However, physical and emotional abuse is also rampant in our society and tearing the future lives of our children apart. According to...
